That scream that I heard when I was trying to build a Lego house still rings in my head. Not a single one of us could take the news that my cousin, who was only 20 years old, was kidnapped and murdered. A tragic event that could be defined as the worst time of my life. I remember in that year, I have seen things that not a single child should have ever seen. I have seen tens of dead bodies who were killed by militias and thrown out on the sidewalk. I have seen dogs eating dead bodies. I have seen slaughtered bodies. I have seen bombs exploding in front of my eyes. I saw blood at every single corner. But nothing was more damaging than having my cousin murdered. At that time, one could easily think of giving up on life. In fact, life and death were no different at that point. But you know what we did? We went on with our lives, we ignored all the danger, took every single risk to go to school, put everything behind and worked for a better future. IT MIGHT SEEM IMPOSSIBLE TO LIVE UNDER SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES, BUT BELIEVE ME, IT’S AMAZING HOW HUMANS CAN ADAPT TO THE WORST SITUATIONS NO MATTER WHAT.
